North Pacific Humpback Whales Migrate from Alaska and are typically in Hawaii from December to April. The best time of year to see the humpback whales is between January and March as this is when there are the most in Hawaii’s waters. In our experience, Humpback Whales are most active in the midday to evening hours. While they can be seen in the early morning chances of sighting are not as high during this time.

For viewing whales from the coastline these are our favorite beaches, hikes, and Scenic lookouts: Diamond Head, China Walls, Kaiwi Coastline lookout, Sandy Beach, and Makapu’u Lighthouse hike are all located on the southeast side of the island. Located a short distance outside Waikiki, these are great spots to look for whales on the coast. On the Northshore in the winter, relaxing on the beach is an awesome spot to watch big wave surfing and watch Humpback whales swim past the coastline.
